The Royal Omani Navy Quahir al Amwaj class corvette was designed and built in the United Kingdom (UK) in the 1990s. These ships are intended to carry anti-surface warfare (ASuW) missions with secondary air defense capability. Their propulsion system is based upon four diesel engines developing 18,160-bhp and a top speed of 25 knots. The ship is provided with a MW-08 surface search radar, flight deck and hangar for operations of a single light helicopter. The weapon options include a 76mm OTO naval gun, a Crotale air defense system with a 8-cell missiles, 8 MM40 Exocet anti-ship missiles and two 20mm guns. The Sultanate of Oman Navy commissioned two corvettes in 1996 and 1997.
